About The Position

IFF is a global leader in flavors, fragrances, food ingredients, and health & biosciences, delivering sustainable innovations that elevate everyday products. The Health & Biosciences division channels passion for nature and bioscience into sustainable, life-enhancing technologies for food, health, consumer, and industrial markets. This part-time (20 hours per week) role is based in Cedar Rapids, IA, and is an onsite position. The Applications Technician will be part of a detail-oriented, collaborative, and solution-oriented team, supporting high-quality grain processing applications.

Requirements

  • Graduating or having graduated with an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in microbiology, biotechnology, chemistry, food technology, or a related scientific field.
  • At least 6 months of experience working in a laboratory environment.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory practices, documentation, and safety requirements.
  • Ability to follow established procedures with accuracy and consistency.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity.
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience supporting grain processing or food application laboratories.
  • Familiarity with basic data analysis tools; experience with JMP is a plus.
  • Ability to learn new analytical techniques quickly and adapt to changing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standardized laboratory tests supporting quality assurance, research, and development activities related to grain processing applications.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of assay results, observations, and basic data analysis.
  • Interpret findings and communicate results clearly to laboratory personnel and project stakeholders.
  • Conduct routine maintenance, calibration, and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure assay quality and reliability by following established laboratory methods, protocols, and safety procedures.
  • Keep the laboratory organized, clean, and compliant with safety and operational standards.
  • Apply laboratory protocols consistently while supporting continuous improvement in grain processing analyses.
