Applications Systems Specialist I - Data Analytics Division
About The Position
The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is seeking an Applications Systems Specialist I to serve on our Data Engineering Team within our Data Analytics Division. In this role, you would have the opportunity to work with Databricks solution architecture and engineering, lead technical projects, review code, and help develop data governance for the agency. As part of our team, you will get to translate business and audit requirements into scalable technical designs, data models, processing workflows, and platform configurations. You will develop advanced Python, PySpark, and Spark SQL solutions for data ingestion, transformation, enrichment, reconciliation, and delivery. You will also define and execute testing strategies for pipelines, transformations, workflows, integrations, and governed data products. Additionally, you will mentor engineers working with Databricks, Python, PySpark, SQL, data pipelines, testing, deployment, and governance. You will design and implement Databricks governance structures using Unity Catalog and related platform capabilities, and define or support data ownership, stewardship, classification, access, certification, retention, and lifecycle requirements.
Requirements
- Knowledge of deployment approaches such as Databricks Asset Bundles, infrastructure as code and configuration as code
- Thorough knowledge of enterprise data governance principles, including data ownership, stewardship, classification, metadata, lineage, retention, access control, and lifecycle management
- Experience in designing, developing and supporting production solutions in Databricks
- A bachelor's degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of progressive experience in business application consulting or development OR An associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of progressive experience in business application consulting or development OR A High School or General Education Development (GED) diploma and eight years of experience in business application consulting or development OR An equivalent combination of education and experience
Responsibilities
- Translate business and audit requirements into scalable technical designs, data models, processing workflows, and platform configurations
- Develop advanced Python, PySpark, and Spark SQL solutions for data ingestion, transformation, enrichment, reconciliation, and delivery
- Define and execute testing strategies for pipelines, transformations, workflows, integrations, and governed data products
- Mentor engineers working with Databricks, Python, PySpark, SQL, data pipelines, testing, deployment, and governance
- Design and implement Databricks governance structures using Unity Catalog and related platform capabilities
- Define or support data ownership, stewardship, classification, access, certification, retention, and lifecycle requirements
