About The Position

Under direct supervision, applies professional programming concepts and established UCSF policies to assigned tasks within the Shan Lab. Works on well-defined projects of limited scope, with a focus on developing software that applies AI to medicine in areas such as disease classification, clinical decision support, early disease detection, and telemedicine to expand health access. Implements standard coding practices and troubleshoots routine technical issues. Follows established procedures to support system integration, data workflows, and software functionality for clinical and research applications, with guidance provided for more complex problems. The Application Programmer will contribute to the Shan Lab’s research and clinical initiatives by developing desktop, web, and mobile applications that apply modern software engineering and machine learning to advance the usability of medical AI tools. Working under direct supervision, the programmer will take on small projects or components of larger initiatives, focusing on building secure, compliant, and scalable software to manage sensitive medical data. Responsibilities include designing, developing, testing, and maintaining applications that integrate with a variety of research tools, clinical systems, and lab-built platforms.
