About The Position

As an Applications Engineer, you will serve as the bridge between customer needs for manufactured parts and xCell's capabilities, transforming requirements into validated, repeatable manufacturing processes. This role involves working at the intersection of additive and traditional manufacturing, process development, materials science, and customer interaction. You will be responsible for dialing in print or machining parameters, running parts to first article, supporting operators in real-world conditions, and providing feedback to engineering for product improvement. This is a hands-on role focused on solving challenging problems with near-term impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials, or related field)
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to ITAR regulations, with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
  • 3+ years of hands-on manufacturing experience with additive (MJF, FDM, or metal) and/or CNC machining
  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM) / Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM) fluency
  • Comfortable troubleshooting hardware and process problems in dynamic environments where speed is critical
  • Proficiency with CAD (SolidWorks preferred)

Nice To Haves

  • Defense background
  • Metal additive or CNC process development and qualification experience
  • Materials qualification, GD&T, and first-article / PPAP-style inspection experience
  • Experience training or supporting end users on manufacturing equipment in the field
  • Familiarity with PLM and quality/documentation systems

Responsibilities

  • Application development: Translate customer part requirements into validated, repeatable manufacturing processes on xCell, covering additive (MJF, FDM, metal) and CNC, from DFM/DFAM through first article.
  • Process & materials engineering: Develop and qualify process parameters, materials, and create part libraries and work instructions for operator use.
  • Field & deployment support: Support xCell deployments, train operators, and troubleshoot production issues on fielded systems in CONUS and OCONUS environments.
  • Customer engagement: Directly interact with warfighters and program customers to understand application needs and translate mission requirements into producible parts.
  • Sustaining & quality: Own first-article inspection and part qualification, and drive fixes for process and application-level issues when systems underperform.
  • Cross-functional feedback loop: Provide real application and field data to systems, mechanical, and manufacturing engineering to inform future xCell development.
  • Ownership mentality: Proactively close loops, take initiative, and maintain high standards for oneself and others.
