About The Position

The Applications Development Group Manager is a senior management level position responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team or department in an effort to establish and implement new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology Team. The overall objective of this role is to drive applications systems analysis and programming activities, provide technical leadership across complex software engineering initiatives, and lead the adoption of modern technologies including cloud-native architectures, Agentic AI, machine learning, and enterprise data solutions.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in software development, application architecture, and technology leadership
  • Strong hands-on experience with enterprise Java development, including Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Core, Integration, Batch, JDBC, Hibernate) and related ecosystems
  • Experience in software applications development, design principles, and solution architecture
  • Deep understanding of data architecture principles and hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle), NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Hadoop), data warehousing, and big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka)
  • Experience designing and implementing microservices architectures, RESTful APIs, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, including cloud-native services, containerized workloads, and serverless architectures
  • Strong experience with containerization and orchestration technologies including Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with distributed caching technologies such as Oracle Coherence, Redis, or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of Agile software development methodologies with emphasis on test-driven development and continuous improvement
  • Experience with SDLC and DevOps practices including source control, CI/CD pipeline technologies, automated testing frameworks, and development tools such as Git/BitBucket, Jenkins, SonarQube, JIRA, and secure coding toolkits
  • Experience managing global technology teams and driving engineering excellence across distributed organizations
  • Working knowledge of industry practices, standards, and modern software engineering methodologies
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple teams of professionals to accomplish established goals and conduct personnel duties for team (e.g. performance evaluations, hiring and disciplinary actions)
  • Provide strategic influence and exercise control over resources, budget management and planning while monitoring end results
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of technical concepts and architectural principles to guide and build scalable, resilient, and intelligent technology solutions
  • Integrate in-depth knowledge of software development design principles within the overall technology function to achieve established goals
  • Provide technical leadership and development oversight to Software Engineers and Analysts, ensuring application designs adhere to approved architectural standards, design patterns, and engineering best practices
  • Develop and contribute to key software components, leveraging hands-on coding expertise to mentor team members and promote software engineering excellence
  • Lead design reviews, code reviews, and engineering governance forums across multiple levels of the organization to improve software quality, consistency, and delivery efficiency
  • Drive adoption of modern engineering practices including AI-assisted software development, test-driven development, DevOps, CI/CD automation, and secure coding standards
  • Lead evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies, including Agentic AI, machine learning frameworks, cloud computing platforms, microservices architectures, and event-driven systems, while ensuring alignment with Citi technology standards
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to define strategic technology solutions that address business objectives and enhance platform capabilities
  • Serve as an advisor, coach, and mentor to developers and analysts, helping to build organizational capabilities in software engineering, AI/ML development, and intelligent systems design
  • Provide evaluative judgement based on analysis of facts in complicated, unique, and dynamic situations including drawing from internal and external sources
  • Influence and negotiate with senior leaders across functions, as well as communicate with external parties as necessary
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards
