About The Position

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is a diverse state agency focused on services for citizens and travelers, including driver licensing. The Division of Driver Licensing (DDL) is responsible for issuing driver’s licenses, maintaining records, and managing safety programs. With new federal rules for “Real ID” issuance, DDL needs exceptional individuals to join as Driver License Support Specialists. This role involves supporting the Director’s office and Branch Managers, with a primary focus on training employees across the state on a new digitized driver license issuance system, DDL state and federal rules (including REAL ID, Commercial Driver License, and National Driver Register). Responsibilities include reviewing and analyzing applicant documents and personal information, conducting oneself professionally, training employees, conducting meetings, participating in conference calls, and compiling data and reports. The position requires the ability to work overtime, especially during the initial rollout period, with opportunities for advancement within DDL and KYTC.

Requirements

  • Must be a good writer with sufficient grammar
  • Must have very good communication skills
  • Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Product Suite (Microsoft Word & Excel)
  • Must be task-oriented and a self-starter with good organizational skills
  • Candidate should have customer service experience serving both internal and external customers
  • Candidate must be able to work well with others in a team environment, assisting them as needed
  • Candidate must become very knowledgeable of Driver Licensing laws and policies
  • Candidate must be able to learn and utilize the KY Driver's License Information System (KDLIS)/IDEMIA issuance program and be able to read and interpret a driver’s history record
  • Candidate will process complex applications by screening all original documents presented
  • Candidate must learn Commercial Driver Licensing laws and licensing processes
  • Candidate must have a high level of accountability
  • Candidate must be able to inspire and lead others through their enthusiasm
  • Must possess interpersonal skills required to work with many different clients
  • Must be professional, supportive, diplomatic, flexible, and responsible
  • Must be able to pass federal fingerprint checks
  • Graduate of high school or have a GED

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director’s office and Branch Managers with project related activities
  • Be present and available for travel
  • Assist and train the on-boarding of new project team members
  • Make necessary logistical preparations for existing and upcoming locations
  • Review documentation of applicants
  • Review and analyze a Driving Record
  • Advise applicants on their questions and concerns related to driver licensing
  • Participate in meetings with DDL and other Cabinet officials
  • Learn the current driver licensing issuing process and play key training and leadership roles to train employees across the state on the new digitized driver license issuance requirements and DDL state and federal rules
  • Review and analyze secure documents of driver license applicants and personal information
  • Train other employees on the new issuance process
  • Conduct meetings
  • Participate on conference calls
  • Compile data and reports for managers
  • Balance end of day reports, including handling of cash
