About The Position

Branom Instrument Company is seeking a technology-driven and detail-oriented engineer to join their growing organization as an Application Engineer. This presales role focuses on industrial automation products and electric process heat solutions, not instrumentation, field service, or project execution. The engineer will work with a wide range of products including industrial sensors, variable frequency drives, control devices, networking devices, electric process heaters, and control components, applied within integrated industrial control and automation architectures. A key aspect of the role involves designing and quoting UL508A industrial control panels. The Application Engineer acts as a technical resource to support sales functions, providing application assessments, solution recommendations, quotations, and technical documentation. The majority of the role's time will be dedicated to developing quotes and proposals for large and complex projects. Responsibilities also include supporting customers with technical questions and specifications, evaluating customer requirements, creating proof-of-concepts, collaborating with sales teams and manufacturers, managing product information, and staying current with product lines and training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience (typically five or more years)
  • Background in industrial automation systems; controls or electrical engineering experience is strongly preferred
  • Ability to understand and interpret industrial programming concepts, including PLC logic, system architecture, HMIs, drives, and control strategies
  • Experience providing presales technical support or applications engineering support
  • Strong computer literacy with the ability to spend most of the workday on a computer
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel or Google Sheets; ability to learn new systems is required
  • High attention to detail with a focus on quality, accuracy, and meeting deadlines
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
  • Well organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to design and quote UL508A industrial control panels

Responsibilities

  • Providing application assessment, solution recommendations, quotations, and supporting technical documentation
  • Developing quotes and proposals for large and complex projects (this represents the majority of the role’s time and focus)
  • Supporting customers by answering technical questions and providing engineering specifications and submittals
  • Evaluating customer requirements and recommending appropriate automation and electric process heating solutions, including PLCs, HMIs, drives, control panels, and heating control systems
  • Creating proof‑of‑concepts and integrated solution concepts when needed
  • Collaborating with sales teams, manufacturers, and internal stakeholders to ensure technical and commercial alignment
  • Taking ownership of product information within Branom’s internal systems and external eCommerce platform
  • Staying current on product lines, system architectures, and manufacturer training
  • Performing other related duties as assigned on an as‑needed basis
