About The Position

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the University of Notre Dame is expanding its Enterprise Applications team to support high-priority, customer-facing projects and ensure the digital environment effectively serves the campus community. The Application Development Specialist will collaborate with functional units, analyze business objectives, and recommend technical solutions with a high return on investment. This role involves using modern coding tools to develop robust integrations and technical solutions, and consulting with technical and functional staff on business and system needs. The ideal candidate is a skilled developer who enjoys solving complex problems, mentoring team members, and driving technical excellence.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • At least three years professional experience in application development, systems integration, or an equivalent combination of education and job experience.
  • Familiarity with web development tools such as HTML and Java, client-server technology, service-oriented architecture, Oracle, and SQL.
  • Demonstrated understanding and use of basic to advanced principles, theories, and practices of software development and system architecture.
  • Good understanding of structured and object-oriented programming principles or knowledge of relational databases, data modeling, normalization, and integration.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to use persuasion and negotiation to build consensus and effectively collaborate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work in the United States, now or in the future, without visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications or advanced coursework in software development, architecture, or relevant technical specialties.
  • Experience working in a university or public sector environment.
  • Working knowledge of financial concepts, systems, and accounting, or interest in the financial domain.
  • Demonstrated experience using artificial intelligence tools to support software development workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end development life cycle for integrations and technical solutions, utilizing modern programming languages, structured and object-oriented design, and artificial intelligence capabilities like GitHub Copilot, Claude, Gemini, and NotebookLM to assist in code development, review, and documentation.
  • Stay current with emerging industry trends, architectural design concepts, relational databases, and data modeling to ensure innovative and scalable technical solutions.
  • Act as a primary relationship owner with specific department and client groups, providing expert consulting services, facilitating business requirements definition, and functioning as a technical lead on assigned projects.
  • Help build the capabilities of other team members to foster a strong talent pipeline, identify and implement team efficiency improvements, and provide guidance on best practices and problem-solving methodologies.
