About The Position

We're seeking an Application Developer to join a state agency modernization initiative focused on replacing a legacy inspections platform with a new web-based solution. Today, inspectors often rely on paper and fillable PDF forms that require manual processing and data entry. This project will transform approximately 70 inspection forms into a centralized web application that streamlines data collection, storage, reporting, and document generation. This is a hands-on development opportunity where you'll contribute directly to building a greenfield application that will be used across the state.

Requirements

• Experience building web forms with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Experience implementing form validation and conditional logic
• Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL
• Understanding of structured data and database design concepts
• Experience developing or contributing to a web application, academic project, freelance engagement, or personal project
• Ability to troubleshoot issues and develop practical solutions
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Attention to detail and data accuracy
• Ability to work through ambiguity and ask thoughtful questions
• Self-motivation and willingness to learn new technologies
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team

Nice To Haves

• Experience with server-side templating technologies such as Jinja
• Familiarity with Git, including branching, pull requests, and code reviews
• Exposure to Python development
• Experience working with Docker or containerized applications
• Experience generating documents or PDF-based outputs from application data

Responsibilities

• Convert existing fillable PDF forms into user-friendly HTML forms
• Implement form validation, conditional logic, calculations, and workflow requirements
• Design and maintain data collection processes that integrate with SQL databases
• Write SQL queries to retrieve, filter, and manage application data
• Develop JavaScript functionality to support user interactions and application workflows
• Collaborate with team members to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Assist with document generation and PDF output functionality
• Participate in testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement efforts
