About The Position

Orbis Operations is seeking an Application Developer to join their team. This role focuses on building, deploying, and sustaining web and data applications for federal intelligence programs. It's a growth-oriented position where broad exposure across the application lifecycle is valued over deep specialization. The ideal candidate is curious, adaptable, and willing to learn new technologies as the mission demands, with opportunities for increased technical ownership over time. The developer will primarily work on-site in customer spaces, with availability for meetings in the Washington Metro Area, and occasional work from Orbis offices or home.

Requirements

• Active TS/SCI clearance with full-scope polygraph (FSP), current and in scope.
• 2 - 5 years of applied software development experience, or equivalent experience related to application development and data engineering.
• Proficiency in Python and a modern JavaScript or TypeScript framework.
• Proficiency in SQL and version control (e.g., Git).
• Designing, consuming, and troubleshooting APIs.
• Building data pipelines across applications, data sources, and external services.
• Hands-on experience packaging and running applications in containers on Linux.
• Track record of learning new languages, frameworks, and tools on the job.

Nice To Haves

• End-to-end ownership of an application, from initial build through deployment and sustainment.
• Experience with relational and embedded analytical databases, including work through an Object-Relational Mapping layer.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated build tooling.
• Experience deploying into GovCloud, secure enclaves, or other accredited or isolated environments.
• Working familiarity with agentic AI architecture, including models, tools, retrieval, and validation layers.
• Comfort externalizing business logic into configuration files rather than hard-coding it.

Responsibilities

• Translate requirements from analysts and end users into working features and deployable applications.
• Build and maintain interfaces and server-side logic across the full stack.
• Build and sustain data ingestion pipelines that pull structured and unstructured data from various sources.
• Support the architecture, integration, and validation layers for AI agent and retrieval-driven applications.
• Package, deploy, and sustain containerized applications in cloud and accredited environments, including air-gapped enclaves.
• Debug issues, run automated and functional tests, and resolve user-reported problems.
• Collaborate with product owners, analysts, and senior engineers in an agile environment.
