About The Position

Support the Information Services Division. Salary is based on education and experience. This is an on-site position located in Oklahoma City, OK. Position Summary The Application Architect supports IT Enterprise Governance by designing the structural framework for enterprise applications, establishing integration patterns, and defining reusable architectural components that ensure scalability, maintainability, and alignment with OMES standards. This role sets coding and design standards, guides development teams through complex technical decisions and trade‑offs, and ensures application solutions adhere to enterprise architecture guardrails and modernization goals. By collaborating with developers, product teams, and cross‑functional technical stakeholders, the Application Architect provides architectural leadership that strengthens solution quality, promotes consistency, and advances the technical maturity of applications supporting OMES, partner agencies, and the broader mission of IT Enterprise Governance.

Requirements

  • Two years of professional experience in application design, software engineering, or full stack development involving the implementation and/or maintenance of enterprise‑scale applications or integrated application systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting twelve semester hours of coursework in computer science, management information systems, software engineering, or a related field for each year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.

Responsibilities

  • Design the structural framework for enterprise applications, including modular application architectures, services, and integration patterns, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and modernization objectives.
  • Establish coding standards, design patterns, reference architectures, and reusable components that promote consistency, maintainability, and solution quality.
  • Guide development teams through complex technical decisions, architectural trade‑offs, and implementation strategies, ensuring alignment with approved solution designs and enterprise architecture guardrails.
  • Evaluate application design proposals, integration approaches, and technology selections to ensure technical feasibility, scalability, and compliance with governance policies.
  • Collaborate with Technical Architects, Solutions Architects, developers, product owners, testers, and cross‑functional stakeholders to support delivery of resilient and maintainable application solutions.
  • Create and maintain application architecture diagrams, component models, sequence diagrams, and documentation that communicate system structure and design rationale.
  • Identify architectural risks, dependencies, and constraints within application ecosystems and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Review and assess integration points, APIs, data flows, and shared components to ensure applications interact consistently and securely across the enterprise environment.
  • Support modernization and transformation initiatives by evaluating legacy application structures, recommending refactoring or re-platforming approaches, and contributing to target-state architectures.
  • Communicate application design concepts, architectural decisions, and technical updates clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Participate in architecture review processes to ensure new development and enhancements adhere to enterprise principles, standards, and governance expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of OMES, partner agencies, and IT Enterprise Governance.
