About The Position

Sales Specialists support three primary store priorities: Customers First, In Stock, and Store Appearance. Sales Specialists support Customers First by providing fast, thorough, and friendly service to customers. Sales Specialists interact with customers by welcoming them to the store, assessing their needs, locating merchandise, providing information on products and services, and making purchasing recommendations. Sales Specialists support In Stock initiatives by assessing stock levels and performing light pack down and pack out activities as needed. Sales Specialists support the Store Appearance priority by ensuring products are displayed and signed, cleaning shelves, and removing debris from aisles and showrooms to promote a shopping environment that is appealing. By supporting these three priorities, Sales Specialists drive sales to support department and store goals. Each associate has the responsibility of providing a safe working and shopping environment by following all safety policies & standards, completing specified safety training, immediately correcting hazards & unsafe conditions or reporting conditions to the Manager On Duty, and working safely as not to endanger themselves, co-workers, vendors, or customers.

Requirements

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma and/or GED.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 plus years Retail, Specialty Retail, Outside Sales or Trade Experience
  • Appropriate certification depending on department: Certified Kitchen Designer; Certified Bath Designer National Council for Interior Design Qualification Certified American Society for Interior Designers Certified Licensed Contractor
  • 2 plus years experience as Sales Associate in specific department and completion of all curriculum for that department

Responsibilities

  • Actively seek out customers, offer a friendly greeting, smile and make eye contact
  • Help customers locate merchandise
  • Ask customers open ended questions and listen to responses about their projects and product needs
  • Describe features and benefits of merchandise as well as steps involved in completing projects
  • Demonstrate expert product and services knowedge in answering customer questions
  • Be the customers' expert on special orders and installed sales
  • Perform basic customer services including cutting keys and rope and mixing paint
  • Thank customers for shopping at Home Depot
  • Maintain stock on a daily basis to ensure products are available
  • Maintain showroom in stock position by working with MET and Supervisor to get samples in stock
  • Review Ads to ensure items are in stock and escalate issues to Supervisor
  • Perform pack-down and packout process to fill in stock and restock returns
  • Review merchandise presentation, signing and pricing daily and escalate issues to Supervisor
  • Clean and dust displays, products and shelves
  • Maintain showroom integrity and assist with minor resets, cross-merchandising as necessary
  • Know store sales goals and set personal goals to support store results
  • Serve as expert on showroom products in given department
  • Provide advanced product knowledge of other categories in department to customers
  • Sell the whole project by suggesting related items and services to purchase that supplement a customer's merchandise or project needs
  • Develop knowledge of competitor pricing, and makes decisions on markdowns to satisfy customers
  • Follow up on job quotes to complete the sale
  • Promote Home Depot credit intitiatives to customers
  • Promote services offered at the Special Services Desk, Tool Rental and Pro Desk
