Appian Solutions Architect

Koniag Government Services•Washington, DC

About The Position

Tuknik Government Services, LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking an Appian Solutions Architect to support a U.S. Army customer on a large-scale contracting systems modernization and automation program. The role owns the target Appian architecture and the migration of capabilities into a secure, supportable low-code platform, balancing near-term production stability with modular modernization, reuse, integration, data, performance, and IL-5/IL-6 boundary requirements. The position is a contingent recruiting profile for a future new business opportunity; the opening, employing subsidiary, compensation, work location, and staffing are subject to final contract authorization. Work may occur remotely when authorized, at Government facilities, or in controlled office and data-center environments. Work involving classified information or SIPRNet will take place at a Government-approved secure location using authorized systems. The role generally supports Government business hours, with occasional release, incident-response, maintenance-window, or approved travel requirements. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field; additional relevant experience may substitute for education.
  • Eight or more years of enterprise application engineering experience, including substantial Appian solution architecture and delivery experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Appian application architecture, Record Types, process models, interfaces, security, data fabric, deployment packages, and performance design.
  • Experience architecting integrations, relational data models, controlled migrations, and high-availability business applications.
  • U.S. citizenship and an active security clearance or eligibility required for the assigned work by the start of performance, with ongoing eligibility thereafter.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with Government, technical, and business stakeholders and maintain accurate work records in approved systems.
  • Ability to protect Controlled Unclassified Information and classified information, when assigned, and comply with required access, training, and handling procedures.
  • Appian enterprise and solution architecture capabilities.
  • Low-code governance and reusable design skills.
  • Data, integration, security, and performance architecture skills.
  • Technical trade study and lifecycle planning skills.
  • Architecture review and engineering mentorship skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Appian Certified Lead Developer or another current advanced Appian credential.
  • Experience with CON-IT-derived contract-writing systems, DLA PIEE, Army acquisition workflows, or capabilities.
  • Experience designing separate IL-5 and IL-6 release tracks or applications within DoD authorization boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and govern the Appian reference architecture, design standards, domain boundaries, security model, and reusable component patterns.
  • Guide incremental modernization from legacy Custom Data Types and monolithic process models toward Record Types, governed data access, and modular applications.
  • Define compatibility patterns that allow existing process instances and legacy dependencies to continue safely as new architecture is introduced.
  • Evaluate Appian-native, commercial, Government-furnished, and custom capabilities through documented trade studies and lifecycle-cost analysis.
  • Design logical segregation using Appian groups, roles, object permissions, record-level security, and boundary-specific configuration.
  • Approve designs for capability refactoring, data migration, interface adapters, reporting, and document-management workflows.
  • Coordinate architecture decisions across DLA PIEE IL-5 and the separate cArmy/SIPR IL-6 deployment without assuming cross-domain data movement.
  • Set nonfunctional requirements for availability, performance, scalability, recovery, maintainability, auditability, and accessibility.
  • Review Appian packages, plug-ins, integrations, database changes, and external services before release.
  • Mentor Appian engineers and resolve the program's highest-risk design and platform issues.
  • Communicate clearly with Government, technical, and business stakeholders and maintain accurate work records in approved systems.
  • Protect Controlled Unclassified Information and classified information when assigned, and comply with required access, training, and handling procedures.
