About The Position

This is a professional position for a certified Primary Care or Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with focus on primary care and family care. The incumbent will work interdependently, independently, and dependently as a member of a health care team in the performance of a medical regimen in health care. Duties will be carried out in accordance with 1) established standards and ethics of the medical profession; 2) personal clinical qualifications; and 3) administrative policies and operational procedures in collaboration with collaborative/sponsoring physician as described in a Collaborative Practice Agreement. Act as a physician extender. Being available and willing to help while in the training room for all our student athletes, and fill care gaps when a sports medicine physician is unavailable. Maintaining a refined, appropriate scope of practice helps KTH align with the consistent vision of providing our student athletes with the ‘highest level of care’. Performs physical assessments and examinations, and evaluates the psychosocial health status of patients. Establishes patient diagnoses and administers individual therapeutic measures based on the health needs of the patient within the framework of written guidelines and protocols. Communicates with and educates patients about their medical condition and follow-up care; also educates patients about preventive measures. Makes appropriate use of laboratory and radiology services in clinical decision making in accordance with standard practice. Initiates referrals and prescribes medication according to written protocols. Seeks consultation from a physician for unusual or unresponsive cases according to written protocols. Maintains thorough, accurate, and timely electronic medical records which justify diagnosis and treatment. Maintains other appropriate legal documents and other required forms. Works with other health professionals to develop policies and procedures pertaining to overall medical standards of practice. Evaluates effectiveness and/or care and initiates follow-up care and/or counseling using established guidelines and protocols. Assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs of health education and preventive programs as established by the Chief of Staff and Administration. Participates in accredited continuing medical education to keep license and certification current, also to maintain professional knowledge and skills needed to carry out duties and responsibilities of the position. Supervises support staff in clinic, as indicated. Serves on committees or participates in process or quality improvement as requested. Confers with physicians as indicated regarding over-all general patient care. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor. Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. Evaluation and management of routine general medical issues. Initial triage of orthopedic issues that do not warrant urgent orthopedic evaluation. Initial concussion evaluation if no sports medicine physician is available. Should NOT include (examples, but not all encompassing): complex health conditions referrals to specialists without physician approval complex infectious disease complex mental health evaluations/med management cardiac conditions concussion clearance acute orthopedic issues beyond initial triage when applicable. Requirements

  • Master's Degree
  • Effective Dec 1, 2021 all new APP applicants will have a graduate (Masters or higher) degree from an accredited program (PA or APRN).
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) - State Board of Nursing
  • Copy of the current advanced practice license for the State of Kansas and/or Missouri (depending on practice locations) – PA or APRN
  • Advanced practice certification commensurate with training (PA or APRN).
  • Licensed Physician Assistant (PA) - State Board of Healing Arts
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Fluent English - Read, write, speak and understand English

Nice To Haves

  • Previous APRN or PA experience is desired
  • Specific certification may be required depending on specialty practice area
