About The Position

The Nebraska Medicine Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship is a structured, 12-month post graduate program designed to support the transition from academic preparation to clinical practice for new or experienced APPs seeking advanced training in trauma and surgical critical care. This comprehensive fellowship provides robust clinical training through a combination of: Supervised clinical practice, led by experienced APPs and physicians, Dedicated mentorship and professional development, Elective rotation opportunities to broaden clinical knowledge and exposure to related specialties, Formal didactic education covering key concepts in trauma and critical care. Fellows will gain exposure to the full spectrum of trauma and surgical critical care, developing advanced clinical acumen, procedural skills, and confidence in managing complex, critically ill patients. Upon completion of the fellowship, participants will be well prepared to assume independent practice in high-acuity or emergent settings.

Requirements

Master's or doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited school/college of nursing required (for NPs).
Minimum of two years RN experience or equivalent combination of RN and nurse practitioner experience combined (two years of RN experience equals one year of APRN experience) required (for NPs).
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nebraska or current compact state required (for NPs).
Currently licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Practitioner (APRN) required (for NPs).
Appropriate certification required based on position, department and population served: Adult Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP-BC); Adult (ANP-BC); Family (FNP-BC); Adult Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) (for NPs).
Master’s degree from an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program required (for PAs).
OR bachelor’s degree with ten years of current active Physician Assistant experience and approval from the Director of the Office of Advanced Practice required (for PAs).
OR if bachelor’s degree with less than ten years current active experience sign a written agreement consenting to obtain a Master’s degree from an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program within three years from date of transfer or hire and approval from the Director of the Office of Advanced Practice required (for PAs).
Ability to maintain Continuing Medical Education (CME) hours to meet State of Nebraska and NCCPA Certification by the National Commission of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) [Or if new graduate, eligible for certification and certification completed prior to beginning to provide care] required (for PAs).
Currently licensed as a Physician Assistant in the State of Nebraska (or eligible for license prior to beginning to provide care) required (for PAs).
Ability to function with autonomy and able to make independent decisions while functioning as part of a comprehensive team required (Both NP and PA).
Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written forms required (Both NP and PA).
Ability to provide critical thinking and analytical skills required (Both NP and PA).
Efficient use of information systems, data processing systems, telecommunication devices, office equipment, and audiovisual teaching/education resources required (Both NP and PA).
Ability to comprehend and follow policy, procedure, guidelines and protocols required (Both NP and PA).
Flexibility and dedication to team involvement and supporting organizational goals required (Both NP and PA).
Familiar with patient care equipment as appropriate to specialty area required (Both NP and PA).
Knowledge of health care policy and societal factors affecting the delivery of care required (Both NP and PA).
Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) licensure required (Both NP and PA).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, must be from an American Heart Association endorsed program upon first renewal (Both NP and PA).
Advanced Cardiovascular Life (ACLS) required, must be from an American Heart Association endorsed program upon first renewal (Both NP and PA).
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification within six months of transfer or hire required (Both NP and PA).

Nice To Haves

Adult Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP-BC) certification preferred (for NPs).
