About The Position

Our client is launching a critical new initiative to implement Azure API Management (APIM) across the organization. This is a net-new enterprise implementation that will serve as a central integration hub connecting multiple internal and external systems. They are seeking an experienced Azure API Management Engineer to lead the design, implementation, administration, and operationalization of the APIM platform within their Azure environment. During the initial 4-6 month build phase, the focus will be on architecture and implementation. Once the platform is operational, the role will evolve to include ongoing support, maintenance, and broader Azure platform engineering responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Azure API Management Implementation & Operation
  • Experience designing, building, and operationalizing enterprise APIM platforms.
  • Experience managing API onboarding processes for internal and external services.
  • Strong understanding of the broader Azure platform beyond APIM.
  • Experience with services such as Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Event Hub, and Service Bus.
  • Understanding of how APIM integrates with other Azure services and internal systems.
  • Experience working with Terraform.
  • Ability to operate within existing Terraform code and make enhancements or changes as needed.
  • Ability to express knowledge through code and automation.

Nice To Haves

  • Scripting experience in languages like Python, PowerShell, or TypeScript.
  • Experience with Git (GitHub or GitLab).
  • Deeper Terraform knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and build-out of Azure API Management capabilities.
  • Establish standards and patterns for API onboarding, backend connectivity, authentication, security, observability, and lifecycle management.
  • Support the operation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of APIM in production.
  • Develop infrastructure-as-code, deployment pipelines, policies, and automation.
  • Work with application, infrastructure, security, identity, networking, architecture, and operations teams.
  • Contribute to broader platform engineering initiatives beyond APIM.
  • Improve developer self-service and reduce manual platform administration.
  • Ensure platform capabilities are secure, supportable, scalable, and well documented.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership to other engineers.
  • Participate in incident response, problem management, and operational readiness activities.
