About The Position

ZipStaff is seeking an API Platform Engineer for a portfolio engineering team at a major transportation organization. This is a hands-on platform role focused on API platform modernization, cloud infrastructure enhancements, vulnerability and bug remediation, and engineering support for the Safety & Security Software Development Team. The position is on-site in Washington, DC, and is a W2 contract through ZipStaff; C2C and 1099 arrangements are not accepted. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship. The engineer will develop, optimize, and maintain scalable REST APIs and data streaming pipelines; work with AWS services and automated deployment workflows; and collaborate on code reviews and issue resolution. Pure application development without API platform or AWS experience will not be considered.

Requirements

At least 5 years of experience developing and supporting RESTful APIs in modern cloud environments.
Hands-on experience with AWS Lambda, API Gateway, Amazon Kinesis, ECS, and EBS.
Strong coding skills in Python and Node.js.
Experience using GitHub for source control, including branching, merging, and pull requests.
Experience maintaining AWS CodePipeline workflows.
Proven ability to diagnose and resolve software vulnerabilities and complex system bugs.
Ability to work on-site in Washington, DC.
Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

Experience in the safety, security, or transportation domain.
Experience with containerized architectures on ECS.
Experience supporting enterprise portfolio applications.

Responsibilities

Drive API platform upgrades and enhancements across cloud infrastructure.
Identify, prioritize, and remediate code vulnerabilities and software bugs.
Manage GitHub branching strategies and repositories, and automated build and deployment pipelines using AWS CodePipeline.
Partner with the Safety & Security Software Development Team on code reviews and issue resolution.
Develop, optimize, and maintain scalable REST APIs and data streaming pipelines.
