About The Position

The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is seeking an experienced APEC Networks Officer, on a Fixed Term, Full-Time Contract to provide research, policy advice, project management, and secretariat support for the various APEC networks for the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APFC) and to strengthen Canadian business community’s engagement with the Asia Pacific. This position will report to the Senior Program Manager, APEC Networks.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree, or equivalent, in related fields such as economics, public administration, public policy, business administration, political science, or international political economy
  • At least 2 years of previous work experience in government, think- tanks, non-profit organizations, or track-two organizations
  • Previous work experience supporting and maintaining stakeholder networks
  • Ability to work effectively in culturally diverse settings
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
  • Familiarity with policy research and policymaking
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to work independently and with stakeholders in Asia.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships with senior executives, including global CEOs, through significant face-to-face engagement.
  • Exceptional networking,stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills are essential to advancing projects and initiatives within the ABAC/APEC network.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake frequent international travel (4-5 times/year), including solo travel, to provide direct support to senior executives at international meetings and events.
  • Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe
  • Internet Browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer)
  • Internal/External communications productivity platforms, such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Zoom etc.
  • Applicants should have a valid and legal permit to work in Canada upon application.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting senior executives and officials in the public and private sector (asset)
  • Experience working in Asia (asset)
  • A writing sample demonstrating experience communicating with private-sector audiences would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provides coordination support to Canadian members for the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) composed of senior business leaders from across the Asia-Pacific.
  • Engages with external stakeholders, including executives and Senior officials, to foster partnerships and collaboration to advance Canada’s work within the APEC networks.
  • Produces reports, briefings and recommendations to advance Canada’s interests and values within APEC fora.
  • Monitors current affairs relevant to ABAC and APEC.
  • Researches and prepares thematic policy reports, presentation documents, speaking notes and briefing materials for senior executives.
  • Manages projects pursued by Canadian ABAC members on topics of interest to the Canadian private sector within the Asia Pacific region.
  • Coordinates and supports Canadian ABAC members attendance at international meetings and relevant events.
  • Laises with federal government officials and provides updates and briefings on APEC network work and activities.
  • Provides administrative support for ABAC members as needed.
  • Provides other research support as needed.
