About The Position

Alvarado Parkway Institute is seeking an APA Intern to join their team. APA Interns work in both inpatient and outpatient settings and provide group therapy, short-term individual therapy, family therapy, crisis intervention, self-harm intervention plans, harm-to-others intervention plans, domestic violence assessments and safety planning, behavior planning, addictive disorders assessments, and full-battery psychological assessments. Treatment focuses on a trauma-informed care model, inclusive of group and individual therapy via evidence-based interventions (e.g., CBT, DBT skills, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Brief Psychodynamic Therapy, Seeking Safety). This is a paid Internship that requires approval prior to completion of this application.

  • Applicants must be preparing to enter their final year of doctoral studies in clinical psychology at an institution accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).
  • Applicants must apply via the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) system
  • Prospective interns must have completed their required coursework, supervised practicum, and be in good standing with their psychology training program.
  • Completed practicum hours at a minimum of two different sites, amounting to at least 600 direct contact intervention hours at settings appropriate for a doctoral level psychology intern.
  • Use standard office equipment and access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
  • Use computer keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist-finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time.
  • Communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner which can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population.
  • Give and follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Perform complex mental functions and basic arithmetic functions; interpret complex laws, regulations, and policies; collect, interpret, and/or analyze complex data and information.
  • Vision sees details of objects at close range.
  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Reach forward, up, down, and to the side.
  • Sit or stand for minimum periods of one hour at a time and come and go from the work area repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Walk and/or stand for long periods of time (3/4 of the workday).
  • Completion of a satisfactory background and reference checks.

  • Individuals whose position may require licensure, registration or certification must maintain such as current and valid.
  • Annual Flu vaccination is required as a condition of hire and ongoing employment.
  • Pass drug and alcohol test performed by Concentra.
  • Clear TB skin test or Chest X-Ray at Concentra.
  • Complete a satisfactory physical examination at Concentra designed solely to determine your ability to perform the duties of the position being offered.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in daily multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Provide training for staff members and for external entities as part of community outreach.
  • Interns are assigned to four three-month rotations, which include outpatient services and psychological assessment. Inpatient services are incorporated into training throughout the year.
  • During the outpatient/inpatient rotations, facilitate group therapy and individual therapy, with the opportunity to facilitate family therapy.
  • The psychological assessment rotation allows interns to administer psychological assessments at both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Psychological assessment referrals include diagnostic clarification, intellectual/cognitive functioning, memory assessment, dementia screening, and malingering screening.
  • Conduct clinical interviews, gather background information, administer, score, and interpret psychological tests.
  • Gain skills in psychological assessment report writing and share results with the treatment team as well as provide feedback to the patient.
  • Other duties as assigned.
