About The Position

The School for Independent Learners (SIL) is seeking a part-time, in-person AP Computer Science Teacher to provide primarily one-to-one instruction to high school students. The ideal candidate will have teaching, tutoring, or professional experience in computer science, programming, or a related field. Experience working with high-school students is preferred. SIL is a small, WASC-accredited private high school located in Los Altos, CA, offering a supportive and encouraging environment for educators. The flexible nature of the school supports both students and teachers, allowing for individualized instruction and accommodating teachers' pursuits, such as advanced degrees.

Requirements

Teaching, tutoring, or professional experience in computer science, programming, or a related field.
Comfortable teaching AP Computer Science.
Comfortable teaching Introductory Computer Science and programming fundamentals.
Comfortable teaching object-oriented programming.
Comfortable teaching algorithms and problem solving.
Comfortable teaching data structures.
Comfortable teaching Java and other programming languages commonly used in high-school computer science courses.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with high-school students.
Experience teaching mathematics.
Experience teaching additional STEM subjects.

Responsibilities

Provide primarily one-to-one instruction to high school students in AP Computer Science.
Teach Introductory Computer Science and programming fundamentals.
Instruct students on object-oriented programming.
Teach algorithms and problem solving.
Cover data structures.
Instruct students in Java and other programming languages commonly used in high-school computer science courses.
Adapt pacing, instruction, and support to each student's individual learning needs.
