About The Position

The Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic is responsible for the safe and reliable maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and servicing of Omega Protein’s aircraft and related aviation equipment. This position ensures aircraft remain airworthy and compliant with applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, manufacturer specifications, company procedures, and established safety standards. The A&P Mechanic works closely with maintenance personnel, pilots, supervisors, and operations teams to identify mechanical issues, perform corrective and preventive maintenance, document completed work, and minimize aircraft downtime.

Requirements

Valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic Certificate.
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Working knowledge of FAA regulations and aircraft maintenance practices.
Ability to read and interpret aircraft maintenance manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, technical publications, and service instructions.
Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to safely operate aircraft maintenance tools and ground-support equipment.
Ability to accurately complete maintenance records and technical documentation.
Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements, if applicable.
Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.

Nice To Haves

Previous aircraft maintenance experience preferred.
Experience maintaining fixed-wing aircraft.
Experience with piston aircraft engines.
Previous aviation maintenance experience in a commercial, industrial, agricultural, or operational environment.
Experience with FAA-required inspections and aircraft maintenance documentation.
Experience troubleshooting electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and engine systems.
Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems.
Previous experience working in an industrial or marine-support aviation environment.
Inspection Authorization (IA) is a plus, when applicable to the company's aircraft and maintenance program.

Responsibilities

Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, repairs, and servicing on company aircraft.
Inspect airframes, engines, propellers, landing gear, flight controls, fuel systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and other aircraft components.
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and engine-related problems.
Perform maintenance and repairs in accordance with FAA regulations, aircraft maintenance manuals, manufacturer specifications, and company procedures.
Conduct engine inspections, servicing, removal and installation of components, and other powerplant maintenance as authorized.
Perform airframe repairs and component replacements while maintaining aircraft structural integrity and airworthiness.
Inspect and maintain aircraft systems, including fuel, oil, electrical, hydraulic, flight-control, and environmental systems.
Assist with aircraft inspections and maintenance checks required to return aircraft to service.
Properly use hand tools, precision measuring equipment, diagnostic equipment, ground-support equipment, and other specialized aviation maintenance tools.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection documentation, work orders, parts usage, and aircraft logbook entries.
Identify worn, damaged, defective, or potentially unsafe aircraft components and recommend appropriate corrective action.
Coordinate with supervisors and other maintenance personnel regarding aircraft condition, maintenance priorities, parts requirements, and aircraft availability.
Follow proper procedures for aircraft grounding, lockout/tagout, hazardous-energy control, and safe maintenance practices.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe aircraft maintenance area.
Ensure tools, equipment, aircraft parts, and maintenance materials are properly stored and accounted for.
Assist with aircraft recovery, troubleshooting, and maintenance support when operational needs require.
Maintain required certifications, training, inspection qualifications, and technical knowledge.
Follow all company policies regarding safety, environmental compliance, drug and alcohol testing, security, and workplace conduct.
Perform other maintenance duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Manager.
Follow all FAA, OSHA, company, and applicable aviation safety requirements.
Conduct maintenance activities with an emphasis on employee safety, aircraft safety, and environmental protection.
Properly handle aviation fuels, oils, lubricants, chemicals, batteries, and other hazardous materials.
Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Immediately report unsafe conditions, aircraft discrepancies, equipment failures, incidents, and near misses.
Never return an aircraft or aircraft component to service unless the work has been properly completed, inspected when required, and documented.
