About The Position

GHJ Search and Staffing, the recruitment division of GHJ, a national accounting and advisory firm, is seeking AP Accountants for a mission-driven nonprofit organization. This role supports high-volume accounts payable and general accounting activities. It's an ideal opportunity for recent Accounting graduates to gain hands-on experience in a supportive, teaching-focused environment with training and long-term growth potential. The AP Accountant will process full-cycle accounts payable for multiple units, with exposure to general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, and audit support. The role involves close collaboration with an Accounting Supervisor and serves as a key resource for field teams on AP-related questions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
• Recent graduates with a solid academic record are encouraged to apply
• Strong understanding of debits and credits and basic accounting principles
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
• Detail-oriented with strong accuracy and organizational skills
• Self-motivated, eager to learn, and comfortable taking initiative
• Collaborative attitude and strong communication skills

Nice To Haves

• Prior accounting or AP experience is a plus, but not required

Responsibilities

• Process full-cycle, high-volume accounts payable for multiple units
• Review invoices for proper coding and supporting documentation
• Maintain vendor records and support W-9 and 1099 requirements
• Generate payments and research AP discrepancies and outstanding checks
• Reconcile monthly AP aging reports and AP-related balance sheet accounts
• Process corporate credit card expenses and employee reimbursements
• Assist with journal entries, accruals, and monthly and year-end close
• Support audit preparation and other accounting projects
• Communicate with internal teams to resolve AP and accounting questions
