Under general supervision of Antimicrobial Stewardship (AS) leadership, the ASP Pharmacist 4 is the fourth step in the four-level career ladder from Novice to Expert and is for individuals with a comprehensive understanding of antimicrobials with expertise in multiple areas of AS across diverse healthcare environments. The ASP4 works towards the system goal of improving antimicrobial utilization at the academic medical center institution and system level. The ASP4 key job functions include helping to lead, coordinate, and carry out the facility and system-wide program for the appropriate use of antimicrobials including multidisciplinary AS initiatives. They will also coordinate the agenda and minutes for assigned facility and system wide committees, and serve as the institution-wide content expert in AS in addition to the potential for expertise in particular areas of ID/AS (e.g., immunocompromised host/transplant, HIV, antimicrobial resistance). The ASP4 will organize/prioritize the education of prescribers and other healthcare personnel based on ASP1-3 feedback of interactions/intervention reports. They will review the trending adverse drug events and medication error reports provided by the ASP1-3 solutions to develop broader solution electronic medical record interventions or other modalities. Those in the ASP4 position will complete ongoing professional development in the field through self-study, mentorship and sponsored training activities, while also providing mentorship to ASP1-3, as requested by AS leadership.
