About The Position
The Department of EEOB within the College of Arts and Sciences seeks an Ant Husbandry Student Assistant to join our team. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. With 38 departments, 20+ world-class research centers, and more than 2,000 faculty and staff members, students have the unique opportunity to study with the best artists, scholars, and scientists in their field. Responsibilities are basic and routine in nature. This may include performing administrative duties in an office, assisting in a research laboratory, aid faculty/staff in supporting academic programs or patient care. Duties will be clear and direct. The Student Assistant will require excellent customer service and strong organizational skills and will represent the department and the university with the highest degree of integrity applying OSU mission and shared values.

Responsibilities
- Maintain healthy laboratory ant colonies through routine feeding, watering, environmental monitoring, and regular observation of colony condition.
- Clean, construct, and maintain formicaria and other colony housing systems, including preparing new housing and troubleshooting husbandry challenges.
- Monitor colony health, behavior, reproduction, and growth and maintain accurate, complete, and timely husbandry records.
- Assist with collecting, establishing, identifying, and acclimating new ant colonies for laboratory research and educational activities.
- Support research projects by preparing colonies for behavioral experiments and maintaining consistent, standardized husbandry conditions.
