About The Position

The Annual Giving & Engagement Manager is responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive annual giving, stewardship, volunteer engagement, and community engagement strategy that strengthens donor relationships and supports long-term philanthropic engagement. This role oversees stewardship initiatives for donors, annual giving campaigns, monthly giving, volunteer engagement, and community outreach, ensuring supporters feel appreciated, informed, and connected to the organization's mission. The position exercises independent judgment, strategic decision-making, and project ownership while supporting overall departmental fundraising goals. This is a full-time, exempt position that may require occasional evening or weekend hours to support donor events, volunteer activities, community engagement opportunities, and development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, business, or a related field preferred.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in in annual giving, donor relations, stewardship, fundraising, volunteer management, nonprofit management, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in donor management software (e.g., DonorPerfect, OneCause).
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise discretion, and make strategic decisions aligned with department goals.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with donors, volunteers, stakeholders, community partners, and team members.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Passion for the organization's mission and the ability to inspire others to support it.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management abilities.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Ability to analyze donor engagement data and annual giving performance to inform fundraising strategy.
  • Ability to collaborate with the Development Team to accomplish overall department goals and shift responsibilities as needed to meet immediate priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee a multi-tiered donor stewardship plan for annual, recurring, and entry-level donors.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive annual giving strategy to increase donor acquisition, donor retention, recurring giving, and donor upgrades.
  • Ensure timely, meaningful acknowledgment and recognition of donor contributions in alignment with stewardship best practices.
  • Maintain personalized, ongoing communication with donors through meetings, phone calls, written correspondence, tours, events, and stewardship activities.
  • Track donor engagement, giving trends, annual giving performance, and portfolio activity to inform strategy and forecasting.
  • Establish benchmarks and best practices for personalized acknowledgment, donor recognition, and impact reporting.
  • Create and manage stewardship calendars to ensure timely touchpoints and coordinated donor communications across departments.
  • Draft donor-facing communications, including thank-you letters, impact reports, updates, annual stewardship packages, appeal content, and special recognition materials.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Development & Communications to gather stories, data, and outcomes for donor updates, annual giving appeals, and stewardship communications.
  • Serve as a public representative of the organization at community events, networking opportunities, speaking engagements, and donor cultivation activities.
  • Host donor tours and site visits to showcase organizational impact and deepen donor connection.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of annual donors through strategic cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and relationship management.
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward monthly donors to ensure continued growth of the Housing Heroes program.
  • Partner with the Director of Development to support mid-level and major gift strategies, campaign stewardship, and donor pipeline development.
  • Monitor donor engagement and recommend tailored strategies to strengthen long-term relationships.
  • Support fundraising events and campaigns (galas, auctions, cultivation events, and third-party initiatives) in collaboration with the Development team.
  • Leverage events as strategic stewardship and cultivation opportunities for annual donors, volunteers, community partners, and Housing Heroes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and external partners to ensure successful engagement initiatives.
  • Represent the organization at events, tabling opportunities, volunteer activities, and donor meetings as needed.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator and Community Engagement Coordinator, ensuring alignment with annual giving, stewardship, volunteer engagement, and community outreach goals.
  • Provide leadership, goal setting, training, and performance feedback to direct reports while fostering collaboration between volunteer engagement, community engagement, and fundraising efforts.
  • Develop strategies that create meaningful pathways for volunteers and community partners to become long-term donors, advocates, and ambassadors for the Coalition.
