Animal Welfare Monitor
About The Position
Sofina in Hanover, Ontario is hiring 1 (one) Animal Welfare Monitor position on the night shift in the Live Receive department. This role involves monitoring and documenting animal welfare conditions, ensuring compliance with MOP Chapter 12 Regulations, and performing other related duties. The position requires the ability to work with minimal supervision and in various environmental conditions, including exposure to heat and cold. Successful candidates will also need to demonstrate understanding of food safety and warehouse practices, and be able to operate a forklift and prepare reports accurately and in a timely manner. The role also involves meeting the physical demands of the position, including heavy lifting.
Requirements
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Successful completion of Sofina Foods humane handling
- Successful completion of Livestock Transportation course – transfer of care
- Ability to working in all environmental conditions – exposure to heat and cold
- Satisfactory reading, writing, math, oral communication and comprehension skills (to be tested)
- Demonstrated understanding of food safety (to be tested)
- Demonstrated knowledge of warehouse, shipping and receiving practices (to be tested)
- Ability to operate forklift
- Ability to prepare hand written and computer reports ensuring all reports are completed with accuracy and in a timely manner
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including heavy lifting (+50 lbs)
- Demonstrated recent satisfactory performance and attendance
Responsibilities
- Monitor and document animal welfare conditions
- Ensure compliance to MOP Chapter 12 Regulations
- Euthanize compromised/unfit birds
- Remove snow and road slush from the bottom of the live haul trailers and scale
- Receive live haul trailers
- Position and reposition trucks and trailers as directed
- Maintain good manufacturing practices as related to hygiene, allergen, handling and temperature control
- Other duties as assigned
