About The Position

Oversees staff, volunteer, and community service programs in the adoption center. Ensures the highest level of customer service for animal and clients in accordance with the AHS mission, goals and management philosophy. Oversees adoption counseling, staffing, and visitations between customers and animals. Oversees daily humane care and treatment of animals and is responsible for animals’ health and well-being in the adoption center. Ensures the upkeep, safety, and cleanliness of animal enclosures, public areas, and workspaces. Responsible for stocking and ensuring quantity and quality of shop inventory and shelter supplies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • One year of previous customer service experience in an office or retail business setting
  • Computer literate in a Windows environment
  • Ability to utilize effective problem solving/decision making skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Desire and ability to work with animals
  • Willingness to travel and provide program support to other AHS locations and departments
  • Valid GA driver’s license or ability to obtain a valid GA driver’s license and must be insurable by Society’s insurance company
  • Ability to multi-task and handle a high stress, emotional environment
  • Willingness to be trained and administer humane euthanasia
  • Must be able to set aside personal judgement for the betterment of the client and the animals
  • Must be able to communicate with and work well with a diverse clientele; different races, ethnicities, faiths, sexual orientations, income levels, etc.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound, independent judgment

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred two to three years’ experience in a supervisory capacity
  • Preferred one-year animal handling experience
  • Preferred knowledge of animal diseases, medications and treatment protocols
  • Preferred knowledge of animal behavior and ability to read animal body language

Responsibilities

  • Promotes a culture of teamwork, positivity, compassion, and performance excellence
  • Administers personnel-related tasks, including new hires, terminations, leave requests, performance management and employee development for the Animal Welfare Specialists
  • Performs periodic and annual evaluations in accordance with AHS policies
  • Assures that employees, volunteers and community service are complying with operational policies
  • Oversees daily staff activities in animal care and customer service for the campus
  • Adheres to the departmental and organizational financial goals
  • Manages supply inventory to include ordering, receiving and distribution
  • Oversees record keeping and accuracy as it pertains to ordering and receiving, adoption paperwork, receipts, cash reconciliations and deposits, and animal records
  • Handles agency funds according to protocol and reports cash discrepancies promptly
  • Performs/ensures Bank deposits
  • Ensures ethical stewardship of donated goods and resources
  • Attends managerial meetings and events as needed
  • Ensures and may facilitate training of staff, volunteers and community service
  • Ensures the highest level of customer service to clients and visitors
  • Ensures adherence to adoption policies and guidelines
  • Ensures staff and volunteers counsel customers with organizationally approved content such as basic medical information, behavior profiles, breed information, and adoption package benefits to help clients make good choices
  • Trains staff to solicit for donations and encourages purchase of pet supplies
  • Oversees the physical wellbeing, cleaning, exercise, and daily emotional enrichment of animals available for adoption
  • Oversees the maintenance of animal care records, proper feeding, medicating, and ensures animals receive timely attention from a veterinarian as needed
  • Ensures humane animal handling according to established safety policies and procedures
  • Oversees adherence to AHS cleaning, disease control, and quarantine protocols
  • Ensures the upkeep, safety, and sanitation of animal enclosures, public areas, workspaces, and equipment
  • Enforces safe handling of cleaning supplies, chemicals and equipment in compliance with safety rules and according to SDS rules
  • Collaborates with other departments to accomplish departmental and organizational goals
  • Other duties as assigned
