About The Position

The Laboratory of Lymphocyte Dynamics, led by Gabriel Victora, seeks an Animal Technician to support rodent colony operations and general laboratory activities in a collaborative research environment of approximately 20 members. This is a full-time, on-site position intended for individuals interested in a long-term technical role supporting animal research and laboratory operations. The position combines hands-on work in the mouse colony with routine laboratory support tasks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Willingness to work with and learn rodent handling and care in a research environment
  • Ability to follow established protocols with accuracy and consistency
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated reliability and a desire to build a long-term career within a research environment, with an anticipated commitment of two or more years

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree preferred
  • Prior experience working with animals, in a laboratory, or in a related hands-on environment

Responsibilities

  • Perform weaning, ear tagging/clipping, and blood collection as requested by investigators via cage card instructions
  • Assist with breeding setup and maintenance, following guidelines established by the Principal Investigator
  • Maintain colony organization, including cage labeling and animal identification
  • Observe animal health and report concerns to veterinary staff as appropriate
  • Assist with tissue collection for genotyping and sample organization
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date colony records
  • Support use of colony management software such as SoftMouse or similar systems
  • Assist with data entry, verification, and lineage tracking
  • Work with lab members to ensure consistency in colony tracking practices
  • Prepare and maintain common reagents and buffers
  • Assist with routine laboratory techniques, including PCR setup for genotyping and basic sample preparation
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of shared laboratory spaces
  • Monitor and restock laboratory supplies
  • Coordinate with the animal facility regarding colony needs and logistics
  • Assist with ordering and inventory management for lab and animal-related supplies
  • Follow institutional policies and procedures, including animal care and use (IACUC), biosafety, and laboratory safety requirements
  • Support onboarding of new lab members on basic lab and colony procedures, as needed
