About The Position

This position involves providing daily care for animals, ensuring their welfare through proper feeding, watering, and maintaining a clean and sanitary environment. The role requires adherence to strict protocols for sterile or disease control settings. Responsibilities include cage and facility cleaning, waste removal, and daily observation of animal health, with reporting to a supervisor and record updates. The technician will also assist veterinarians with medical procedures such as vaccinations and blood collection. There may be a requirement to transport animals between facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supply daily food and water to animals according to specified requirements and strict protocols for sterile or disease control environments for animal welfare.
  • Maintain cleanliness of animal cages and facilities, which includes operation of cage washer, autoclave, high pressure washers, floor maintenance machines, or hand operated utensils.
  • Change bedding, papers and pan liners as specified; remove waste in a safe, sanitary manner while minimizing potential aerosol contaminants in animal rooms.
  • Provide daily observation and report any health concerns to supervisor, update records.
  • Assist veterinarians in vaccinating animals and collecting blood samples.
  • May be responsible for transporting animal from one facility to another.
