About The Position

This role is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and managing the recruitment, training, and utilization of volunteers for the animal shelter. It also involves developing partnerships with local organizations, maintaining volunteer records, conducting meetings, and implementing a volunteer recognition program. Additionally, the position manages and coordinates a robust animal foster program, including home visits, statistical data management, coordinating foster animal adoptions, and ensuring the well-being of foster animals.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Event Planning, Business Administration or related field.
  • One year related experience or prior experience working with Animals required.
  • Valid Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Knowledge of the animal shelter profession.
  • Knowledge of the safe handling and general welfare of large and small animals.
  • Knowledge of pertinent animal control laws, regulations and ordinances.
  • Knowledge of work hazards.
  • Ability to care for animals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, other employees and to deal with the public in a courteous and pleasant manner.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to think quickly on your feet.
  • Ability to professionally advocate Hall County’s position on issues.
  • Able to educate people about the process of TNR in a clear and effective manner.
  • Knowledge and experience with feral cats and trapping cats, and knowledge about how to safely operate cat traps.

  • Accurate record-keeping and ability to provide monthly reports on various programs.
  • Proficiency with Internet navigation and a variety of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office and Google.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes, coordinates, and manages the recruitment of volunteers for the shelter.
  • Works with social, civic, and local organizations to develop partnerships for volunteer development and utilization.
  • Develops and implements training programs for all volunteers.
  • Maintains updated records on all volunteers.
  • Sets up and attends volunteer meetings.
  • Reports to staff on volunteer activities as needed.
  • Recommends and develops ongoing volunteer utilization.
  • Develops and implements a volunteer recognition program.
  • Plans the volunteer program/service, including developing and implementing goals and objectives.
  • Assesses the need for volunteers to enhance program/service delivery.
  • Develops a budget for the volunteer program activities.
  • Conducts ongoing evaluation of programs and services delivered by volunteers and implements improvements.
  • Develops, administers, and reviews policies and procedures for volunteer programs.
  • Develops and administers forms and records to document volunteer activities.
  • Identifies volunteer assignments and writes volunteer position descriptions in consultation with staff.
  • Promotes the volunteer program to gain community support.
  • Develops and implements strategies to recruit volunteers with the right skills.
  • Develops and implements an intake and interview protocol for potential volunteers.
  • Implements a screening process for potential volunteers.
  • Trains staff to work effectively and cooperatively with volunteers.
  • Orients volunteers to increase their understanding of the organization, its clients, services, and their roles.
  • Ensures volunteers receive appropriate training.
  • Ensures volunteer check-in procedures are followed and records of volunteer hours are maintained.
  • Ensures volunteers receive the appropriate level of supervision.
  • Assists with conflict resolution among clients, staff, and volunteers.
  • Establishes and implements a process for evaluating the contribution of individual volunteers.
  • Plans and implements formal and informal volunteer recognition activities.
  • Evaluates the risks associated with each volunteer position and takes appropriate action to control risks.
  • Ensures volunteers work in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment.
  • Evaluates the contribution of each volunteer on an annual basis.
  • Prepares an annual report on the contribution of the volunteer program.
  • Administers and monitors expenditures for the volunteer program against the approved budget.
  • Recruits volunteers by placing advertisements, posting opportunities online, and attending job fairs.
  • Interviews potential volunteers to determine if they are a good fit.
  • Provides comprehensive training to new volunteers, including orientation sessions and tours.
  • Teaches volunteers new skills.

  • Ensures that all animals within the foster program are being properly cared for and all resources are provided to foster families.
