About The Position

Performs intermediate semi-skilled work in animal care and cleaning of premises in animal control operations; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Animal Control Supervisor. WEEKEND WORK IS ESSENTIAL IN THIS POSITION.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or its equivalent, with no required experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of small animal care and behavior.
• Knowledge of how diseases and contaminants spread and how to contain an outbreak of illness.
• Knowledge of cleaning agents and chemicals.
• Skill in handling animals; skill in cleaning and general custodial duties.
• Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with the public.
• Ability to read, comprehend and follow written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Feeds, waters and provides basic care for animals in the shelter.
• Follows a sanitation schedule each day and uses the proper chemicals and techniques to effectively clean and sanitize the animals' kennels and enclosures in the shelter.
• Maintains organization of equipment and supplies in the feed room, wash room, and kennels.
• Provides educational information to the general public regarding animals adopted from the ARC.
• Observes the condition of animals in the shelter and reports suspected illness or injuries of animals to the supervisor.
• Assists the Animal Control Officers when needed with handling and restraint of animals for vaccinations.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
