About The Position

This is a part-time position responsible for cleaning and sanitizing animal kennels, providing food and water, walking dogs, and monitoring animal health and safety. The role also involves office support, including reception, data entry, and file management. Responsibilities include processing adoptions, handling inquiries from the public, dispatching animal control officers, and maintaining records. The work schedule is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of state laws and local ordinances and departmental policies and procedures relating to rabies, animal control and confinement of animals.
  • Knowledge of breeds of animals to aid in identification of lost pets and to know temperament of various breeds.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use required technology.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in customer service.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public, exercising tact, courtesy and firmness when dealing with animal owners and the public.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and reports concerning animals, daily activities, and fiscal matters such as fee collection.
  • Graduation from high school, office experience involving contact with the public and experience in handling and caring for animals; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Possession of a valid NC driver’s license.
  • Valid North Carolina License required.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and sanitizes animal kennels.
  • Provides food and water to confined animals.
  • Walks dogs.
  • Makes routine inspections of animals and their cages to monitor health, safety, and cleanliness.
  • Provides office support activities including reception, records compilation, data entry, and file management.
  • Processes adoptions, takes information, collects fees, and releases animals to owners.
  • Prepares animals for adoption and assists interested parties in claiming or adopting animals.
  • Answers telephone calls from the public and provides information on animal control issues.
  • Dispatches animal control officers in response to calls for service.
  • Maintains a variety of records and reports.
  • Performs other related work as required.
