About The Position

Platte Center West, LLC is seeking multiple Animal Scientists in Albion, NE. This role involves working with senior leadership to develop improved practices in feeding, housing, sanitation, and parasite and disease control of pigs, sows, or gilts. The Animal Scientist will oversee feeding, watering, and ventilation systems and advise senior leadership about improved products and techniques that could enhance swine health quality and production. Responsibilities include assessment of animal health conditions, participation in administration of treatment and vaccines, overseeing selection and movement of all animals marked or moved, and entering data regarding such assessments using a PDA or computer. The role may also involve active participation in gruel feeding, mat feeding, and handfeeding, documentation of all sow and gilt activity on each sow card, and/or participation in estrus detection of sows and gilts and insemination of sows and gilts. Additionally, the Animal Scientist will assess animal selection and breeding practices to increase production efficiency and improve animal quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in veterinary medicine, agricultural sciences, engineering, or an animal-based agriculture-related field (foreign equivalent accepted).
