About The Position
The Preclinical Research Laboratory (PRL) within Global Technology and Innovation (GTI) supports the development and evaluation of medical technologies through preclinical surgical research and laboratory operations. The team partners with research, veterinary, and operational stakeholders to execute studies while maintaining compliance with quality, regulatory, and animal welfare requirements. This position is based onsite in Coon Rapids, Minnesota and requires hands-on participation in laboratory and surgical settings. The role includes scheduled weekend, holiday, and after-hours coverage as part of departmental operations. The Animal Research Technician III serves as an advanced technical resource supporting preclinical surgical procedures, anesthesia management, laboratory operations, and study execution. This role performs complex technical responsibilities, assists in training team members, and contributes to operational excellence, study quality, and animal care within the Preclinical Research Laboratory.
Requirements
- 3+ years of technical experience in animal research, laboratory operations, veterinary support, surgical support, or related preclinical research environments.
- Experience supporting surgical procedures, anesthesia activities, or laboratory-based research operations.
- Experience working with research animals and performing animal care, monitoring, and facility support activities.
- Experience following regulated procedures, documentation practices, and quality requirements.
- Ability to participate in scheduled weekend, holiday, and after-hours coverage.
Nice To Haves
- American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT), Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT), or Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) level.
- Experience working in a regulated research, laboratory, or medical device environment.
- Experience using imaging systems including fluoroscopy and computed radiography.
- Knowledge of animal physiology, pharmacology, anesthesia, and perioperative animal care.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and OneNote.
- For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
Responsibilities
- Support preclinical surgical procedures by performing anesthesia technician responsibilities independently.
- Serve as operating room circulator, including operating room preparation, sterile product handling, fluoroscopy operation, contrast injections, and imaging data management.
- Acquire, assess, and maintain radiographic images using computed radiography and fluoroscopy systems.
- Support animal studies through animal care, monitoring, post-operative care, dosing support, and collaboration with veterinary and research personnel.
- Maintain compliance with animal welfare, biosafety, biosecurity, quality, and controlled substance handling requirements.
- Train and support laboratory personnel on departmental procedures, equipment, and operational practices.
- Collaborate on the development, revision, and maintenance of standard operating procedures, work instructions, and controlled documentation.
- Participate in departmental operations, including scheduling support, after-hours responsibilities, and weekend and holiday coverage.
