About The Position

Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC has a potential need for an Animal Research Coordinator to provide support for our government customer in San Antonio, TX. This role involves ensuring all research protocols, schedules, and regulatory documentation are developed, submitted, and maintained in accordance with institutional guidelines. The coordinator will assist with protocol writing, study source document preparation, and submission to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). They will coordinate one or more simultaneous projects for the PI/Director, communicate regularly with Departmental Supervisors to schedule study-related activities, and document all regulatory, research, and administrative actions to ensure continuous study compliance. The position requires conferring with the investigator on experimental design and establishing study participant contact procedures. The coordinator will execute animal research studies and perform advanced clinical procedures, including hands-on handling and operational experience with swine models. Specialized surgical and clinical procedures on swine models are expected, such as internal jugular/femoral Swan Ganz catheter insertion, application of Near-Infrared Spectroscopy, and continuous physiologic vital sign interpretation. Administration of scheduled and emergent treatments via infusion pumps, standard pressure bags, IV catheters, or central lines is also a key responsibility. The role includes providing instruction to laboratory personnel on research laboratory techniques and equipment usage, maintaining high data integrity, organizing research information, and supporting the dissemination of scientific findings. Continuous Quality Control (QC) on study source documents and large research databases is necessary to ensure data accuracy. The coordinator will manage data collection workflows, build comprehensive study files, and assist with the preparation of abstracts, posters, manuscripts, and presentation graphics. They will prepare and deliver required periodic reports, correspondence, and other research documentation directly to the PI. Project budgets will be managed, necessary supplies procured, and administrative software systems utilized effectively. Budget preparation for project execution and active monitoring of research study budgets are also part of the role. Research equipment and supply catalogs will be utilized, and purchase requests processed in accordance with IACUC requirements. Available software systems for accounts tracking, publication submissions, purchase orders, credit card purchases, and processing incoming/outgoing funds will be used. Comprehensive schedules will be developed, and correspondence prepared to support overall administrative research operations. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a biological science related discipline.
  • Must provide proof of immunization, or immunity from or screening for the following diseases according to DHA guidelines equivalent to that provided to active work Armed Forces: Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, and Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis, Tuberculosis (TB), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (Contract employee who has direct patient care) and influenza for all personnel.
  • Must have current American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) training, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training and demonstrate familiarity with GCP in practical application.
  • Must be familiar with IACUC research protocols for both laboratory and clinical environments.
  • Must be willing to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain a CAC card.

Nice To Haves

  • Any certification(s) through AALAS ( i.e. - ALAT, LAT, and/or LATG) are highly desired.
  • Some experience with benchwork is highly desired.
  • Trauma related biomedical research in a DoD environment highly desired.

Responsibilities
