About The Position

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to support our Veterinary and Laboratory operations in a 3-month, temporary, part-time role. Working under the supervision of the Lead Animal Health Technician, Consulting Veterinarian, and Curatorial Staff, this position assists husbandry teams with animal health care activities and water quality testing. Requirements

  • Internship or hands-on experience in animal care, veterinary support, and/or water quality testing preferred.
  • General knowledge of water quality analysis, basic microbiology, and/or animal health care practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform physical job requirements, including standing or walking approximately 75% of the time, bending or crouching 15% of the time, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and standard software, including Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to work effectively in exhibit spaces, holding areas, mechanical rooms with confined spaces, and standard office environments.
  • Required immunizations may apply depending on the animal collection, which may include TB testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree (or higher) in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered at the discretion of WOW.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts basic water quality testing on aquatic systems, including dissolved oxygen (DO), ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, copper, chlorine, and other parameters as needed.
  • Performs system bacterial analysis through testing of Enterococcus and coliform levels.
  • Communicates water quality and microbiology results clearly with Life Sciences and Life Support staff; assists with preparation of routine daily reports.
  • Observes animals in collection and quarantine settings for signs of disease, stress, or abnormal behavior and reports concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Assists with routine animal health care procedures such as fecal examinations, skin scrapes, and animal physicals; may occasionally support treatments and preventative health care under direct supervision.
  • Demonstrates strong initiative and time management skills, effectively prioritizing tasks while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Works collaboratively as a dependable team member, contributing to a professional, respectful, and cooperative work environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
