About The Position

A Humane Officer (also referred to as an Animal Control Officer) is under the general supervision of the Shelter Manager who operates the City's animal shelter and is responsible for the enforcement of animal control and cruelty laws and regulations. Employees in this class provide care to sheltered animals, capture nuisance animals, educate the general public on ordinances in relation to domestic pets, and respond to calls for services and emergencies twenty-four (24) hours a day. Performs related work as required.

Requirements

  • Basic level certification in animal control by the state's Department of Health (may be obtained post-employment).
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Ability to acquire within one year of hire advanced level certification in animal control by the state's Department of Health.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum six (6) months experience in a field related to animal control/care.
