About The Position

Opal Foods is hiring an Animal Caretaker for its Timberview Pullet Farm. The role involves caring for live birds and maintaining barns to support bird health and comply with company policies and government regulations. The Animal Caretaker also assists the Pullet Farm Manager with projects and other duties as needed. The position requires following strict biosecurity procedures, including showering in and out, and working in bird houses surrounded by live birds. Employees must be able to walk for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and lifting hens weighing up to 5 pounds. The schedule includes day shifts, Monday through Friday, and weekends or holidays as scheduled. Work is in person.

Requirements

Follow strict biosecurity procedures, including showering in and showering out.
Be able to walk for very long periods of time.
Be able to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, and lift hens weighing up to 5 pounds.
Be comfortable working in bird houses surrounded by live birds.
Be available to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
Comply with the biosecurity policy requiring no contact with any bird species other than the company's laying hens, including domestic ducks, geese, wild birds, chickens, and pet birds.

Responsibilities

Maintain barn sanitation by sweeping floors and using a backpack unit to blow dust from assigned areas.
Perform minor maintenance; maintenance technicians handle more complex tasks.
Walk through barns multiple times during the workday to check bird health and remove dead birds.
Ensure feed and water distribution systems work properly and that hens have adequate food, water, and ventilation.
Adjust vents and curtains as required.
Assist other House Hands as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead person or Manager.
