This position involves learning and developing individual skills based on work requirements in a designated work area. The role requires working in a cohesive team environment to provide essential care to animals. The initial 30 days of employment will involve 100% supervision, with a determination for advancement to Animal Care Technician 2 at 90 days. Responsibilities include basic sow/gilt handling (feeding, watering, moving), operating machinery and equipment, assisting with farrowing and breeding (artificial insemination), handling and using chemicals, vaccinating and medicating sows and piglets, cleaning tasks (afterbirth, dead pigs, scraping), using computer equipment (handheld devices, electronic wands), loading and unloading pigs, and maintaining farm cleanliness. Adherence to all biosecurity standards, including showering in and out of facilities, is mandatory.
