About The Position

Texas Biomed is searching for an Animal Caretaker in the Macaque Group. This role works under close supervision, providing care for laboratory animals, their housing, and associated facilities. The primary emphasis is placed on maximizing animal welfare and minimizing experimental variables relating to animal health and environmental sanitation. Texas Biomedical Research Institute is an independent, nonprofit infectious disease research institute in the U.S. dedicated to pioneering and sharing scientific research to protect families and the global community from infectious diseases. The institute combines high-level biocontainment labs for infectious disease and biodefense research, a federally-designated National Primate Research Center, over 80 years of discoveries, and an entrepreneurial culture with specialized expertise in regulated science required for FDA approval.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required
Must have valid driver’s license and meet Texas Biomed driving standards.
Available to work Monday-Friday, 7am to 4pm with rotating schedule covering some weekends and holidays

Nice To Haves

Animal experience and/or bachelors degree in related field preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide daily care for macaque monkeys, e.g., watering, feeding, daily cleaning of cages, etc.
Provide all other aspects of primate husbandry, including health checks, recording data and assisting Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians in health care and assist in environmental enrichment program.
May need to restrain animals using proper techniques for the species
