About The Position

Responsible for the care of animals housed at the Culpeper Animal Shelter. The role includes providing animal care and medications, maintaining shelter cleanliness, responding to public inquiries, completing paperwork and data entry, and stocking supplies. Essential functions are regularly performed in a controlled environment, though some tasks may involve exposure to disease, aggressive animals, extreme noise, and odors. The position is moderately physically demanding and requires frequent physical activity, including handling objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Requirements

• Education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.
• Ability to lift, carry, and pull objects and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform constant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, swatting, and climbing.
• Ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, odors, colors, visual perception, and depths.

Responsibilities

• Care for shelter animals, including feeding, bathing, and providing fresh water.
• Provide medications, vaccinations, and deworming treatments to animals.
• Check animals’ physical condition and ensure cages are locked.
• Clean and disinfect the shelter, floors, cages, kennels, and related equipment.
• Answer shelter phone lines and provide the public with information about shelter operations and animal control services.
• Complete shelter paperwork, including treatment sheets.
• Perform clerical and data-entry tasks.
• Stock shelter supplies, animal food, kitty litter, and cleaning supplies.
• Record lost-and-found information.
• Perform light housekeeping tasks.
• Perform related duties as directed.
