About The Position

To perform the necessary duties to provide quality care to all animals utilized in research including animal husbandry activities such as feeding, watering, sanitation, observation, room cleaning, and other duties as assigned. Part of the selection process includes an OnDemand (pre-recorded) interview to complete at your convenience. During that interview, a question will appear on your screen, you will have time to consider each question before responding and have the opportunity to re-record your answer to each question – Mayo Clinic will only see the final recording. The complete interview will be reviewed by a Mayo Clinic staff member and you will be notified of next steps.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma
  • Able to assume responsibility
  • Able to work independently, without close supervision
  • Able to work cooperatively with other animal care technicians
  • Able to carefully follow set procedures as dictated by the NIH Guide for the Care and Use of Animals, the Animal Welfare Act and guidelines established by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care
  • Above average manual dexterity
  • Stand on feet more than 50% of the time
  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Bend or squat routinely
  • Work with arms above shoulder level
  • U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee

Nice To Haves

  • 1 to 2 years animal handling preferred
  • Recommended to be certified by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science after 2 years' experience on the job as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT)
