Requirements

Minimum of a high school diploma.
Ability to assume responsibility and work independently without close supervision.
Ability to work cooperatively with other animal care technicians.
Ability to carefully follow set procedures as dictated by the NIH Guide for the Care and Use of Animals, the Animal Welfare Act and guidelines established by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care.
Above average manual dexterity.
Ability to stand on feet more than 50% of the time.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to bend or squat routinely.
Ability to work with arms above shoulder level.

Nice To Haves

1 to 2 years animal handling experience.
Certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science after 2 years' experience on the job as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) is recommended.
