About The Position

The Animal Science Center, part of the Office of Research, is dedicated to supporting the research community throughout the lifecycle of their work. We are a diverse group of passionate individuals who understand the critical role research animals play in scientific discovery. Our mission is to uphold the highest standards of animal care, health, and welfare in accordance with institutional, local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures, while assisting in academic studies. This role involves daily quality animal care for all research animals housed at the Charles River Campus, including rats, mice, and birds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via email, text, call, through smartphone and computers.
  • Accurate record keeping skills.
  • Detail-oriented.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Complete daily quality animal care for all housed research animals (rats, mice, birds).
  • Perform animal husbandry tasks such as cage changing.
  • Conduct animal health checks.
  • Administer veterinary health monitoring and treatment.
  • Maintain facility cleanliness.
  • Manage animal receiving and housing.
  • Collect census data.
  • Follow standard operating procedures for Biosafety Levels: ASBL-1 and ASBL-2 and Chemical Containment Levels: CCL-1, CCL-2 and CCL3.
  • Complete assignments independently and as part of a team.
  • Build working relationships with researchers, veterinary staff, and co-workers.
