The Dairy Cattle Center, part of the Integrated Dairy Facilities for the Department of Animal and Dairy Science at UW-Madison, is an industry-leading facility housing 84 lactating cows. This facility is crucial for supporting the university's teaching, research, and outreach missions. It specializes in unique, individualized nutrition-based research, as well as research on mammary and reproductive physiology, and transition cow management. The center also provides intensive hands-on learning opportunities, making it a unique facility. This position is involved in all aspects of research dairy operations, including milking, feeding, cleaning, handling, and animal health observations. As a lead worker in the absence of management, this role requires the ability to maintain operations with limited supervision. The incumbent will lead the collection and processing of composite milk samples and other research data according to established standard operating procedures. Additionally, this position will work closely with student employees, leading, training, and assisting them with daily farm operations.
