Requirements

  • Animal Care experience required.
  • Certificate or College Diploma in Animal Care (or equivalent education plus work experience) required.
  • 6 months of supervisory and/or leadership experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Team player.
  • Resilient attitude when faced with unpredictable or emotionally demanding situations.
  • Ability to lift 18 kg (40lbs) and control 45 kg (100 lbs).
  • 1 year of customer service experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid G drivers license with the ability to provide a clear driver’s abstract.
  • Must have open availability including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Clerical and/or office administration experience an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Advises the public in a variety of ways including responding to general inquiries, adoption counselling, retention counselling, relinquishment counselling and general animal care questions.
  • Leads and delegates reception and administration duties, including greeting the public, answering phones, and maintaining animal records.
  • Assists the Centre Manager in animal care related decision making.
  • Vaccinates shelter animals on a regular basis and keeps track of vaccination inventory.
  • Performs regular animal enrichment based on the needs of the animal, including but not limited to exercising, engaging in play activities, and providing novel experiences/tastes/smells.
  • Supervises all volunteers, co-op placements, and fosters.
  • Support the ACA team as necessary.
