About The Position

Here at SPCA Florida, our goal is to give animals a better life with a forever home, and we need a team of caring, passionate dog lovers to achieve that. We are currently seeking enthusiastic and responsible individuals who are committed to the happiness and safety of animals. This is a part-time position – four (4) days a week – shifts will be 8:30 – 1:30. We work together every day to make a difference in the lives of animals. The Canine Team is responsible for the overall care of all the canines within our shelter by providing food, water, and a clean environment. Job duties include, but are not limited to, the daily cleaning of animal areas, feeding, monitoring animal health, and assisting the public with general information and adoptions. Must be compassionate and have a positive attitude. Must have customer service skills and act as a spokesperson for the organization to promote our purpose and our programs to the public.

Requirements

  • Able to perform physical work, including scrubbing, mopping, lifting, walking, and bending.
  • Potential for standing on feet for 8 hours a day.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds with assistance and maintain control of dogs as large as 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities encompassing both administrative and operational.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains sanitation standards and supports animal health by cleaning cages and runs.
  • Walks dogs multiple times daily to ensure proper exercise and enrichment.
  • Facilitates visits and positive interactions between animals and potential adopters.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties, including laundry and dishwashing.
  • Baths animals as needed to maintain hygiene and presentation.
  • Observes and reports signs of illness, injury, disease, or unusual behavior to the Adoption Center Medical Team.
  • Conducts routine cleaning and disease control of public areas throughout the day.
  • Learns and assists with basic duties across departments, providing support as needed.
  • Completes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
