About The Position

The Animal Care Attendant is responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary environment for the animals and staff within the shelter. This role involves a variety of cleaning tasks, direct animal interaction, visitor assistance, and occasional travel. The position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to the organization's mission of providing a second chance for companion animals. Adherence to core values such as teamwork, problem-solving, psychological safety, progress over perfection, and a compassionate approach is expected.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
  • Comfort working around animals, including handling basic animal care routines.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and follow established cleaning protocols.
  • Models a professional and courteous manner with staff and clients.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task and still attend to detail.
  • Ability to handle animals with care and patience.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work well under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize kennels and shelter holding spaces to meet high standards of hygiene.
  • Sweep and mop all floors throughout the facility, including clinic areas and animal holding rooms.
  • Collect, wash, dry, and fold linens and bedding used in animal care.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment following established protocols.
  • Assist with other cleaning tasks as needed to maintain a safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for animals, staff, and visitors.
  • Collaborate with volunteers to maintain a clean, comfortable, and supportive environment for the animals and staff.
  • Walk dogs and provide playtime enrichment to support physical and emotional well-being.
  • Greet and assist visitors, adopters, and volunteers with a welcoming attitude.
  • Maintain accurate logs and communications across shelter teams.
  • Travel occasionally to Belfair headquarters for training, meetings and/or staffing coverage.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
