About The Position

The BC SPCA is seeking an Animal Care Attendant for their Maple Ridge Animal Centre. This temporary, part-time position involves 21 hours per week across various shifts. The primary role is to ensure the health and welfare of the animals, while also providing support to front office staff. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers’ License and driver’s abstract
  • Demonstrable interest in all aspects of animal welfare
  • Knowledge of the geography of the Branch’s warrant area and the Shelter’s warrant area
  • A sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, characteristics and more common diseases
  • Ability to work as a team player and demonstrable well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills sufficient to deal effectively with necessary front office routines
  • Excellent customer service
  • Ability to prioritize demands on time
  • Philosophical harmony with the vision, mission, and strategic directions of the BC SPCA.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively to maintain the entire physical plant in a clean, sanitary, and efficient manner on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintain the kennels, runs, and cat cages in a clean, sanitary, and efficient manner on an ongoing basis.
  • Treat animals humanely, with compassion and concern, and transmit these values to others.
  • Provide animals with proper diet and ensure they feed and water properly.
  • Ensure animal health and well-being in accordance with the society’s animal health policy, including administering medications as specified.
  • Maintain a high level of standards to portray the SPCA as a compassionate and caring organization.
  • Willingly help co-ordinate the supporting work of volunteers.
  • Perform other duties as required to ensure the smooth operation of the shelter.
  • Collaborate with other shelter personnel to create a positive and harmonious atmosphere among staff and volunteers, enhancing team performance.
  • Assist front office staff with telephone reception, answering inquiries, receiving animals for surrender, adoption procedures, license and merchandise sales, general office routines, and record keeping.
  • Perform all duties in a courteous, friendly way to clients, volunteers, and other staff.
