About The Position

This is a seasonal position with a maximum duration of six months, based on individual performance and business operations. The exact end date will be determined by the official start date. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, daily husbandry and care of the birds exhibited within the Aquarium. This includes, but may not be limited to, three species of penguins and three species of alcids. Must be willing to work in a fast-paced and highly changing environment. Must be available to work holidays and weekends, as scheduling dictates.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Strong communication and organizational skills, including attention to detail.
• Knowledge of a safe working environment for animal collection, employees and visitors.
• Ability to work independently, when familiar with operational procedures.
• Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers, other departments, and management.
• Willingness to speak publicly to large and small groups.
• Candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, and possess a valid driver’s license with a good history.

Responsibilities

• Have or develop the appropriate level of knowledge of the natural history and captive management of the bird species in their care, ensuring their best possible physical and psychological well-being.
• Animal husbandry including, but not limited to, cleaning, feeding, and enrichment.
• Monitor behavior and changes in animal health.
• Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of the building and grounds.
